Match report
At Ilford on Saturday St Albans City met their “Waterloo” in the Amateur Cup competition to the tune of 2 goals to nil. But it was not a discouraging defeat, for the City gave a display that afforded those of their supporters who were present every satisfaction.
Notwithstanding the reputation enjoyed by their opponents and the fact that the absence of Harry Davis, Fincke, Cook(or Price) and Hughes, their own ranks might have been regarded as weakened, the Saints, when they ran onto the splendid Ilford playing pitch, were in very optimistic vein. This was proved by after events, for the City gave one of their very best shows of the season.
The game, by the way, was somewhat of a replica of several important engagements in which the City have figured during the past two seasons, the damage being done in the first half-hour after which the losing team were doing their upmost to get on level terms.
