Match report

William Flint
St Albans City have struck a bad patch lately. They went from bad to worse on Saturday, when they were opposed at Clarence Park(1) by Tufnell Spartans. The Saints have never had much difficulty in beating the Spartans, but the latter caught them on a decidedly off-day on Saturday and won the game in praiseworthy style.
As far as combination and all-round play went, the winners were immeasurably superior to the City who, however, had terribly hard luck. To take the field without three of the first choice is not a position which inspires a team with confidence and although Smith was not much missed owing to the confident goalkeeping of Flint of the Reserves, the absence of Hammond and Edmonds from among the forwards was greatly felt.
S.D.Goodfellow, who came into the team in place of Hammond, had very few opportunities to show his abilities but T.Hearn, who turned out at short notice, played exceedingly well and got his side out of many difficulties. Of the halves Brandham, especially, played well.
The one great weakness was at centre-forward where Edmonds leadership was greatly missed. During the game three City men appeared in the position and none was a success.
