Match report
St Albans City were in excellent form on Saturday, when they entertained Chelmsford in a Spartan League match at Clarence Park and gained a creditable victory of 4-3. Chelmsford were not at full strength, neither were the City. Although there was only one absentee from the City ranks the difference to the strength of the team by that one was considerable. Thomas was the player referred to and by his absence the City were all but robbed of victory. E.Anderson partnered Patrick in his absence and although, on the whole, only praise can be given for his display, he was a weak spot in the team. The visitors found this and took advantage of it.
The City gave an exceptionally good display, the forwards playing as they have seldom done before. At half-time the Albanians led by 3-1, which was a little more than they deserved. In the second half Chelmsford drew level 3-3 and it looked as if the City were going to be robbed of victory but, fortunately, a splendid shot by Hosier gave them the lead, which they fully deserved.
The kick-off was not until four o’clock, on account of the funeral of the Town Clerk.
