Match report
Before a fair number of spectators at Clarence Park on Easter Monday afternoon, St Albans City went under to South weald in a Spartan League fixture by two goals to nil. There could be no question that the better side won, but the visitors were given a good run for the points.
The styles of football by the two teams were widely dissimilar, the visitors playing a scientific short passing game against the City’s bustling long passing(if any) and largely kick and rush style. The visitors from Brentwood were individually better than the City and their combination was indeed pretty and clever.
When the City visited Brentwood they beat South Weald by the same score as on Monday South Weald were victorious over them. The City players gave an excellent show but, candidly, they were outclassed.
Patrick worked hard and well together with Anderson at back but he sorely missed Thomas. Habbijam was again in the City ranks playing at centre-forward in the first half and centre-half in the second, changing with C.Sharpe, who, as ever on the few occasions that he does play, did clever and effective work.
