Match report

A. Grimsdell
In St Albans City’s match with the 3rd Grenadiers at Clarence Park on Saturday all eyes centred upon two players – A.Grimsdell and R.Weir, the former of whom was making his first appearance for the City Club in his rightful position, whilst the latter stepped on to the classic St Albans enclosure for the first time.
Both players came up to expectations; indeed, of Grimsdell(right) it can be said that he was the man of the team. His form delighted everyone and considering Watford’s misfortunes, it is incredulous to many that this brilliant footballer has never been given a chance to show his worth in the Southern League team1. Weir, too, played a very promising game and had not Walker’s style been quite as individualistic, he would have shown to even better advantage. He possesses a fine turn of speed.
The introduction of Knott into the centre-forward berth and his re-association with Walker had a very enlivening effect on the home forward line and. Although he appeared rather out of place at first, “Tommy” soon found his best style and made a good pivot. The other home forwards did well and by scoring four goals Hammond equaled feats accomplished last season by Knott and Butcher. Willie Hughes, however, leads the way. It will be remembered that last season this player netted five goals in a memorable match with Luton Clarence.
