Defender who started his football career at Kingstonian and then went on to have a successful professional career with Fulham (168 appearances / 7 goals) and Tottenham Hotspur (104 appearances/ 2 goals). Played 27 times for Crystal Palace in the 1983/84 season. Moved to Barnet and then joined The Saints in the 1986/87 season. Played 3 seasons before taking the manger role at Clarence Park in 1987. Returned to play under John Mitchell in the 1991-92 season.
