The drawn game at Clarence Park a fortnight previously necessitated a visit by the City to East Herts on Saturday. Then, for the first time, they succeeded in finding their true form against Waltham and after a fine display all round, came away with the right to entertain Barnet Alston at Clarence Park on Dec.2nd in the final round of the competition. Harry Cook missing the train at Liverpool Street, B.Beech, a young forward who was present as reserve, turned out at inside-right and so well did he perform that the City have reason to congratulate themselves upon a “discovery”. Beech played last season for Fleetville. Their success with the toss gave the home team no material advantage, there being little or no wind blowing, while the ground sloped slightly each way from the centre. Waltham had their usual eleven and before a fair crowd.
