Match report
Both teams were playing their second game in two days when Tufnell Park and St Albans City met at Underhill, Barnet on Saturday to discuss a little matter of two Spartan League points, but the form shown by both sides was fairly good. The play was as fast as the rough surface of the ground would permit and the Spartans, at any rate, could not grumble at a draw of one goal each. The City, however, had every reason to consider they ought to have won, for they had more of the game than their opponents.
Their failing was an old one – inability to score goals. There were many good if futile efforts to get the ball into the net, but in the City front line there were two distinct styles, Hosier and Paul attempting combined play, while the other three were chiefly individualists.
The Spartans started a couple of men short, but they managed to keep the City out until the laggards arrived and the game was then of an even nature.
A few minutes from the finish the City had a splendid chance of scoring a winning goal, a penalty being awarded through Bird handling the ball in his attempt to dispossess Walker. Hosier was entrusted with the kick, but his shot went almost straight to Newman, who punched away for a corner.
