“THE VISITORS TROUNCED”In the Spartan League game on Saturday, St Albans City showed very good form indeed when beating the Newportonians by 4 goals to nil. The team which the homesters fielded for this match was much stronger than that of the week before and consequently gave an improved display. There were four changes – E.F.Grimsdell appeared at left-back after a long absence, P.G.Staines, the assistant secretary, took the centre berth, A.Wiggs was at inside-right and at outside-left R.Stewart figured in place of Hepworth, who was unable to play. One of the brightest features of the match was the form whown by Stewart. He appeared some minutes after the start and during the first half he was ever dangerous to the Newportonians. From two centres of his goals were scored. In the second half he had very little work to do and the City scored only one goal. Altogether the whole team were strengthened and braced up. Watkins had the smallest chance of saving any of the shots which beat him. When Grimsdell scored the second goal from a penalty, he clapped his hands and watched a terrific shot enter the net with as much interest as did any spectator.
