A goalkeeper who signed for St Albans City from Welwyn Garden City in 1927 but his only competitive appearance that season came during a 6-4 Isthmian League defeat at Caledonian Park, Holloway, to London Caledonians on 5th November. He had also turned out the previous Saturday when City drew a friendly 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur A at Clarence Park.

His next run out in the First team did not happen until 27th August 1932 when Casuals won 3-2 at the Park in the Isthmian League. His final First team game came a week later when we drew 1-1 at home to Chesham United in the Extra Preliminary Round of the F.A. Cup. What was unusual about these two appearances is that he played as a forward unlike his previous game five years earlier.

Ballard also played in 13 games for the City Reserves, the first dozen of these games saw him in goal with his final appearance being in the forward line.
